Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Name Change

What do I need to do to have my daughters names changed on their birth certificate? I hyphenated their last name and want to remove my ex husbands name. He is willing to do this. He has never paid a penny of child support in the last 17 years and has not been a part of their lives. When my daughter graduates, I do not want his name on her diploma.

Re: Name Change

You need to file suit in the District Court to change her name. Father can sign a waiver indicating he has no objections. Have the court enter an order changing the name. It is a relatively simple process but I suggest you hire a lawyer to be sure it is done properly.
