Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Name change with a divorce

I am going through my second divorce and want to have my name changed back to my children's last name. Can have my last name changed back to my last legal name (went by that name for 12 yrs.) or can it only be changed back to my maiden name?

Re: Name change with a divorce

Texas Family Code, section 6.706, allows you to change your name if you specifically request it changed to a name previously used, unless the judge states some specific reason not to change it.

Obviously, you would still be liable for debts in the old name, etc.

You can then get a change of name certificate from the clerk of the court.
