if i change lawyers days before trial/mediation due to disagreement can i ask the court for a postponement?

You can always ask. Remember, though, that there are certain requirements for a continuance that must be met such as it has to be in writing, it must be properly served on the other party, and it must be sworn to.

The court will take into consideration such things as the length of time before trial and the efforts made prior to the request. If it is very close to trial or if nothing has been done to prepare for trial, then it is less likely. The court will not be pleased if it appears that the request is simply because the party is not ready.

That being said, some courts will regularly give a party one continuance, but not all courts have that attitude.
