Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Name Change

We live in Texas. My husband ad I have been married for almost 5 years. I have not changed my name over yet because I wanted to clear up my old debts. I want to change my name this year. When I do so, how will it affect 1: the home that is in my mother's and my names, purchased just before we got married. 2: the $40,000 child support my husband owes for his 25-year-old son, who has always lived with him?

Re: Name Change

Based on your zip code it looks like you live in Harris County.

I offer DO IT YOURSELF name changes where I prepare the legal papers and you walk it through.

The filing fee is approx. $275 plus my fees for doing the paperwork are $400. If you want me to go to court with you and stand in front of the Judge that is $200 more.

It's not hard but you MUST do certain things.

I don't advise ordering a kit off the internet - especially if the company is NOT in Texas.
