Name change of minor vs. adoption

I was abandoned by my ex husband when I was 7 months pregnant. I have been divorced for 4 years and terminated his rights last year. I have been happily remarried for two years...I would like to know if a name change with a will, over an adoption would be good since it is very well estsablished who ''Daddy'' is?

If the child has a new Daddy, he will need to assume the legal duties of fatherhood through adoption. Changing the name is nothing more than mere cosmetic appearance and doesn't make him a legal daddy at all.
