Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Name Change of a Minor

My 14-year old son want to change his surname to my maiden name. In court, I was award certain exclusive rights: among those, the ''right to represent the child in legal action and to make other decisions of substantial legal significance concerning the child''. Although his father objects to the name change, would this right give me final say? Thank you.

Re: Name Change of a Minor

The judge gets the final say, but the father also gets his say. Procedures for a name change may be found in the Family Code, which you can find at the Texas Statutes (Go to http://www.reasonable-doubt.com and then to links, law librarian's home page and then to texas statutes)
