Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Name Change
I am a 44 year old citizen of the USA. Born in North Carolina; Married in N.C. and Now live in Texas. When I married in 1992- I adopted my maiden last name as my middle name. I have a current passport, drivers license, SS card, voters card, and all other forms of ID such as vechicle regs., credit cards etc. as my identification. I even have past w-2's and IRS tax returns filed with this as my name...I am being told by my present employeer that I did not have the right to change my name to reflect my maiden last name as my middle name and they insist that the middle name on my birth certificate is in fact my legal middle name..... I am very confused right now and I would like to know who is right; and what do I need to do to make it right. I feel they do not have the right to tell me my name is not what my name actually is.

Re: Name Change
I think the employer is right. just because you "adopted" a name when you married does not constitute a legal name change. Just because you have been using the name in all those places all those years does not make it a legal name change. Only that can be done by the Court, not a marriage ceremony. Good Luck.
