Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
name change/sealed document
I am wanting terminate the bio father's rights and my husband want to adopt my son and change his name. I want to keep my name(he only knows my maiden name) and my son's new name from the bio in the documents. I am afraid for our lives if he knew them. Is there a way to do that? He has an abusive/drug history. He moved all over the place, jumped around the job grid. My son has never seen him.

Re: name change/sealed document
The bio. dad must be notified that you want to terminate his rights.
If you don't want to have any contact with him, you might not want to do the step-parent adoption.
When the kid turns 18, he can do an adoption and it's really easy. The bio. dad does NOT need to be notified.
You need to think about your safety. I don't know if it's worth doing if you are really afraid of him.
