Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Does My Child Need An Attorney

My daughter just turned 14 and wants to come live with me(her mother). Does she need an attorney to represent her or can she simply petition the court and represent herself? I can't afford an attorney at this time. She really wants to do this and I don't want to let her down due to a lack of money. I would have made several modifications to our custody orders if money wasn't so tight for me.

Thanks for your help,

Tracy

A minor child cannot petition the court to change custody.

One of the parents needs to do so.

Go to the State Bar of Texas website and see if there are any free or discounted legal services in your area.

Lone Star Legal is one agency that represents indigent people for free. They are really booked up due to the number of requests for assistance.

Good luck!
