When can the child chose?

In the state of Texas, how old does a child have to be to chose which parent he/she wants to live with?

The answer you are seeking is 12.

However, please be advised that a child's choice is not binding on the court. The judge will look to see if his/her choice is "in the best interests of the child."

For example, if the mother lets the child smoke dope and not attend school, the judge will not allow the child to live there.
