child custody

What is the easiest and less expensive way to file for a legal guardianship or custody of a child, and what forms would I need to fill out to get this process going?

Re: child custody

Your question is too broad to respond to without more information. Factors that need to be known include: (1) where are the biological parents and do they agree with your plan, (2) the age of the child, (3) how long has the child resided with you, and (4) what is the purpose of the guardianship/conservatorship.

Application for guardianship is made in the County Court or perhaps Probate Court in your county. Fees are usually $200-$300 and you might be able to file an affidavit of indigency if you can't afford to pay the fees.

Forms are available on-line or in your local law library or perhaps your central library if you live in Dallas or some other big city.
