Child Custody

My finance and I have been taking care of someone elses child since the first part of 2007. My finance had a pwoer of attorney from the mother, but it expired in August of 07. The mother has done nothing it helping to take care of her child and since August has not attempted to come and get her child back. My question what are we to do in contesting for full custody of the child since its apprent to me that the mother is unfit to raise this child?

First of all the document is worthless. She can show up at your door step this afternoon and take the child. If you want custody of the child, you need to get a court order. You need to file a Suit Affecting Child Relationship. Get an attorney. Good Luck.
