Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child custody

I have a friend who is in a custody battle with her ex husband. They have joint custody of both of their children. She has them 14 to 16 days out of the month. She is having to pay him over $600.00 a month in child support when she has the kids with her half of the month.

My question is...Why does she have to pay him anything when they are in her custody half of the month??? He has a high priced lawyer and she cannot afford a big attorney, is this why she is getting screwed in this agreement?? And...Is there anything she can do to fix this?

Re: Child custody

Your assessment about the disparity in the "big time" factor between the attorneys definitely has a lot to do with results. There is usually a reason one attorney charges more than another. But, bargains are always available. Your friend will just have to shop around and see if she can find an effective attorney who can work with her on the fees.
