Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
child custody
A few months ago the mother of my oldest son who is three died in a tragic car wreck, and before she pasted she did put me on child support which stated that we were joint consvertors of my son. I know that I now have sole custody but the maternal grandmother of my son is trying to keep my son away from me. And now I know I need to get something in writing from a judge so that I can get my son. Yet I don't have the money for a lawyer, a friend told me you can actually fill out and file with the family courts in our county and do everything myself. But I'm not sure how to file with my county?

Re: child custody
What your friend told you is true. You can "fill out and file" till you're blue in the face and you won't accomplish anything. This job is hard work. Takes a lot of hard work to get that law license and know how to use it. But if you want to spend your time studying up on what to file, where to file, how to use it and how to get what you want, this is the USA and you're entitled to do that. Some people find it easier to hire a lawyer.

You need to do something soon or the grandmother may have grounds to file for custody of your son. Your best bet is to hire a good family law attorney. Many will work out a payment plan with you. Good luck.
