how can a mother lose custody of her son to the childs grandparents? what does a grandparent have to prove in order to take the child from their mother?

Your statements are rather general so, I am unable to answer your question as I would like to; however, the grandparents must have standing first, and always remember that the court follows the best interest of the child. Although the presumption in Texas is that the parents are the best interest of the child, some times that is not the case.
