Child Custody

If both parents of a minor child decide to split custody of the child 50/50. Can the father keep the child 6 months out of the year and the mother keep the child 6 months out of the year, without either one paying the other child support? Also, can they agree to split Medical coverage on of the parents carry medical coverage and the other pay copays?

Re: Child Custody

No legal reason exists to prevent such an agreement.

Re: Child Custody

It would depend in Harris County. If the parents make approx. the same annual income, then there would be no child support. If one parent makes a lot more than the other, then the child support from the highest earner would be subtracted from the lower earner and the difference paid to the lower earner.

Of course, you'd have to live in the same neighborhood so the child could attend the same school year around. The courts would not like the child to have to change schools every 6 months. It's not fair to the child.
