Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child Custody

How do I go about getting custody of my 3 year old grand daughter? My daughter was killed 16 months ago. My grand daughter has been living with me for about a year now. Her dad was living in a trailer behind us until 5 weeks ago. Since then we have talked to him once. He doesn't call to check on her. His room mates have been out a couple of times to pick up mail, but he hasn't done anything. He receives a social security check for her and himself. He has helped very little financially. Can I get custody and how?

Re: Child Custody

You need to visit with an attorney concerning the multiple issues involved in the facts you present, because there is no simple answer to your question. I am located in the Houston arera and would be glad to discuss you alternatives if you care to do so. If so, please contact me so we can talk. I would generally say that the Court will strongly favor giving custody to a parent, rather than to a nonparent. Where there has been a voluntary relinquishment, as would seem to have occured here, that opens up the door for you. Contact me if you want to visit further concerning these matters.

Re: Child Custody

You could probably get custody and the Social Security check. You need to file a

Suit Affecting Parent Child Relationship. See a lawyer. Good Luck
