Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

child custoy

My sister in-law is living with me due to issues with her parents and things back home. What do I have to do to get custody if the parents do not contest and do agree to it? I need custody for insurance and education and legal things.

It may not be custody that you need. Your question does not provide nearly enough information to answer your questions. First, where is the father of the child? Second, if the mom is with you why do you need custody?

If mom and dad both agree to make you primary conservator of the children, see a lawyer. There are important and complex legal issues involved in a change of conservatorship.

I assume we are talking about a teenager. Your best bet is to find a family law attorney to help you. Full custody may not be what you need.
