Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

child guardianship/custody

My friend has been taking care of a minor for 3 years now. It has now come to our attention that the mom is in drug rehab and is not readily accessible to this child if she needs something. Can my friend get some kind of legal rights to this child to protect her and take care of her needs while mom is out of the picture?

It's called a guardianship. Might cost some money. Sometimes Legal Aid might help in your community or perhaps there are other sources. Good Luck.
