Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Child Rights
I know a 17 year old girl whose parents are divorced and her mother has custody, but the child resides with her father's parents. She recently became pregnant by a 28 year old male. She consented to this act, but the 28 year old male feels her mother will press charges. What can she do and what should he do to protect himself from prosecution?

Re: Child Rights
The 28 year old "man" had sex with a 17 year old child. If reported to the police, that is commonly called statutory rape. The girl may not legally consent to sex with a man over 18. If the mother reports the crime, the 28 year old will be subject to arrest and prosecution. This will depend on proof of sex with the 28 year old and a DNA test will be proof.
