Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Child Support Assistance/Contract
In October of 1998 I was having problems trying to locate my ex-husband and in collecting child support, so I enlisted the assistance of a child support agency that is located in Austin Texas. I reside in Georiga, but my ex-husband lives in Texas. I signed a contract with Support Kids that states they will take a percentage of any money collected on my behalf. I have since tried to cancel my contract, but they stated that the only reason that I can terminate their services are if they do not collect any money in a 12 month period. They have not been successful in collecting on a regular basis, but they have collected some every 12 month period. I wanted to know if there is any type of time limitation that a contract can remain legal and binding or if there are no limitations on it. I would like very much to terminate my contract with them, but do not know if I have any legal grounds to do so. They did state in the contract that I signed that the only ways to terminate are; withing 7 days of signing, if they collect 100% of the money or if they do not collect anything within a 12 month period. I would appreciate any legal advice on my options.

Re: Child Support Assistance/Contract
The terms of the contract you signed with them would generally apply without an outside time limit. Of course, I would have to review the contract before giving you any concrete answers.
