Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child support and bankruptcy

My exhusband filed for bancruptcy right after I filed for a raise in child support. He had only been paying a short time and was 26,000 behind. That was 2 years ago, they say there is stil nothing they can do to raise it. how long can a bancruptcy effect child support?Surely it is finished by now and how do I find out?

Re: Child support and bankruptcy

A bankruptcy proceeding can last as long as three years, and can stay all claims against the bankrupt person. However, there all ways around this. You could petition the court for a release from the stay, or if he didn't name you as a creditor, then you can go ahead and pursue your claim. Feel free to contact me if you need any help with regard to this matter.
