Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child Support

My boyfriend is in the middle of a settlement to receive unpaid child support from his father. The settlement is estimated to be around 50 grand. However, I am concerned because the monthly checks that he should start receiving are going to be in his mother's name. I'm worried because his mother is the type to keep the money for herself. He is 20 and it is my understanding that they should go directly to him since he is legally an adult. Should my boyfriend be receiving the money, or his mother? Thank you for your time.

Re: Child Support

Child support is meant to help pay for the support of the child while he was growing up. Past due child support is owed to the parent NOT the child. The money is owed to her for having raised him with no help for al these years. He has no legal right to the money, and if his mother chooses to give him some of it, he should warmly thank her for the gift each time he gets part of the money.
