Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Child Support for Children in College
Is there nothing that will make a father help pay for college tuition for his only daughter. She is 18 but still enrolled in school. We need his help in paying tuition for her college studies. She is a good student and deserves to get continuing education. Without his help she will have to take out thousands of dollars of student loans. He can afford to help pay for it but won't without the law telling him he has to help.

Re: Child Support for Children in College
Texas does not order parents to support their children after they reach the age of 18 or graduate from high school.
A person can voluntarily enter into a contract but a court cannot order it.
If you want to change the law, you need to contact your state legislature. The next Legislative session when family law issues will be discussed is in schedule in 2 years - 2005.
However, you need to start working on it now.
Good luck -- I'm in your same boat!
