Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child support

I contacted the Attorney General in Texas to have an increase of child support from my childs father. We met and they reviewed his income. They said according to his wages his child support would be raised to $690/mo from $380/mo. Needless to say he was upset. He didn't agree to the ammount so now we will go to court. What can I expect at this hearing? He has threated to bring his ''BIG WIG'' attorney to fight it and make me look like a bad mother. What should I do to prepare myself? I cannot afford an attorney. Please help!

Re: Child support

Threats and BS - BS usually stacks higher and faster. He sure never complained about your mothering skills when he was paying 1/2 the child support he was supposed to, did he. Would your mothering abilities be enhanced if you had more money to do things for the children? Child support is determined by income and Family Code guidelines. Surely the AG's office told you that. I don't know whether you are the best mother to ever walk the earth - probably not. But, unless you've hurt your children, you're probably not the worst either. The bad part about this is the AG doesn't care. They are going for an increase in child support. I doubt that they are concerned too much who has the children. They are not supposed to get into that. You would have to have your own attorney for that part of the case. Get your own Big Wig attorney who knows how to recover attorneys fees. Good Luck.
