According to the Texas Family Code guidelines, child support is calculated based on the non-custodial parent's net resources (gross income less taxes and union dues). Adjustments are made for court-ordered health insurance payments, and the number of other children (if any) that parent is responsible for supporting. The Texas Attorney General website has a handy online calculator that you can use to estimate child support payments, at https://www.oag.state.tx.us/cs/calculator/index.php.

As a rough guideline, if the parent has no other children to support, the child support amount is calculated based on 20% of monthly net resources, capped at a maximum of $1,500 per month for one child.
