Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child support and giving up rights

Im paying child support for my son whom I havent seen in two years. The mother doesnt have custody of him due to being unfit, her mother(grandmother) does. Ive been served with papers that will give the grandmother legal custody of the child, my ex having joint custody and bumping me down to nothing, though it still has me paying child support only now going to the grandmother. Shouldnt the mother be paying half of the child support to the grandmother? Why am I stuck paying the full amount? What has to happen if I decided to give up my rights to the grandmother? What does that normally cost? What has to be done?

The mom should be paying support, too, if grandma has possession but her paying or not paying has no effect on your obligation.

You should get a good family law attorney. No one is just going to let you "give up your rights" and obligations unless there is someone to adopt the child and take your place.
