Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child support & joint custody

What are the guidelines for child support when there is joint custody? Is the spouse with the higher salary required to pay a reduced amount of child support IF there is joint custody?

Guideline child support is set by statute, and can be increased or decreased if justified. It is set forth in the Texas Family Code. You can also find it on the front page of the Collin County website - texasjudge.com. Most counties probably publish the guideline support.

Parents that have true joint 50/50 custody, often do not have child support obligations, as it is presumed that both parents are equally supporting the child.
