Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child Support

What is the law regarding Child Support after the child reaches 18 and receives their High School Diploma. Am I still required to pay or does that stop. If it continues Will I be paying my daughter directly or continue paying her mother(my Ex).

Re: Child Support

Assuming you do not owe any arrearage and have a standard order or decree, your obligation to pay child support ends when the child turns 18 or graduates from high school, whichever comes last. (examples: child turns 18 in March and graduates in May - you pay through May or child graduates in May and turns 18 in August - you pay through August)

If you are still paying off an arrearage you will continue to pay it to your ex.

It might be best to let a family law attorney look over your decree or most recent order.

Re: Child Support

You should review the exact language of your existing child support order, but generally child support ceases entirely upon the child attaining age 18 and graduating from high school.
