Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Child Support Lien
I also have been affected by todays economy. July 2008 I was laid off from my employer. I am currently receiving unemployment benefits. I first married in my early 20's (thought I knew it all) and expected to stay married for many years. Out of my first marriage my oldest son was produced.
To make a long story short...I am unemployed, have 2 children with special needs, no medical or dental for myself or my family. My unemployment benefits are ending soon, no money in the bank. I am in the arrears, received a letter today from the AG's office informing me of lein. I am in the process of losing my family including wife, now this letter from AG's office threatening to take away what little that we have. The ex is holding all the cards and I do not have a leg to stand on.
This whole thing has had a deep impact on my relationship and my kids are going without.
The ''child'' involve is now 21 years of age. Last I heard, he was/is in Military.
My ex does not communicate with me and believe me I have tried phone, letter, and even the AG's office. All she wants is her money. Believe me, if I had the money to pay this debt off I would do it in a heart beat. I am in desperate need of help of legal help.

Re: Child Support Lien
If your child is over 18, then you cannot go to jail.
If you have no money they will get a judgment that will be placed on your credit report. It does not sound like that is going to hurt you much since you are already having money problems.
Any tax return will go to your ex.
Don't have a bank account with your social security number on it. The TX A G's computer will take any bank account with your ss# on it.
The debt will not go away. However, since the child is over 18, the TX A G will usually work with you.
