Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

child support payments

by court order,in 2002, paying 400.00 a month, up till 2007,and my payments were 200.00 a month for 2years till dec.2008,that total about $34,900,which includes, withholding my income tax of 5200.00 and my stimulus check of 900.00,and the start i only owed abt 37,000,why today they say i still owe 37000.00, i believe i've met my obligations, because they were also charging interest on top of interest, this is back child support, my daughter is now 24 years old..what must i do, ihave my home and wife , i can't afford to keep paying something i don't feel i owe anymore.

Re: child support payments

You need to go talk to a good family law attorney. Without reviewing the order(s) and proof of your payments there is no way anyone can figure this out. It does seem that even accounting for accrued interest being paid before anything is applied to the arrearage and the possibility that you were paying current support for a year or two, you ought to have paid some on the arrearage by now.
