Child Support Payments and Insurance
My ex-wife and I are going thru an amicable divorce, with a previously agreed upon amount for child support. I am now being told that what we agreed upon doesn't matter, the judge will determine what the payments will be. Is this true, or will the judge accept what we agreed upon previously?
Also, I provide insurance for our child. Is the amount I pay able to be deducted from the child support payment, or is it made in conjunction with the child support payment?

There are statutory guidelines for child support, but parties can agree to a lower payment and the court usually will approve it if you can explain why you want to do it that way (wife gets something else of value, like extra health insurance or visitation, etc.) and it makes sense to the judge. If it looks like one party is just taking advantage of another party who just wants to get out of the marriage very badly, the judge may not approve it. Family law judges have a lot of discretion.
