Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child Support

This saturday I was served papers on a lawsuit for child support for a child that was born in 1988. Until this time, I knew nothing about a child being born. The mother states the child is mine. She now wants retroactive child support as well as future child support plus attorney fees, etc. What rights do I have? Should I get an attorney. The court hearing is tomorrow morning.

Re: Child Support

Yes, you need an attorney immediately. This is a major event in your life and you have cetain rights as well as defenses regarding alleged paternity, etc. If you can't find an attorney before the hearing, at least inform the court that you need a continuance because you are in the process of hiring counsel. I wouldn't say any more than that.
