Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child Support/Lien on Property

I have a child support order in NH but my ex lives in TX. He owes thousands of dollars to my child and another child in NH. I just recently found out he bought a house a few year years ago and put over $43,000 cash down to pay for it. I have a certified copy of the deed, a copy of his tax records, pictures of the home and also know that the home is in his name only. I want to place a lien on the house immediately because he is selling the property to move back to NH. What kind of lawyer do I need to place the lien? How long does this process normally take?

Re: Child Support/Lien on Property

My experience is that how long it takes depends entirely on how cooperative he is, and what kind of orders you already have. If you have an enforceable order out of NH, then it can be enforced here in Texas. The point is to serve him before he leaves, so that there his property is in the court's jurisdiction. Once he is served, the standing order forbids buying and selling the property without permission of the court.
