Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Child support/Parental Rights

I have a child with a woman that I have not been able to get in contact with for years therefor have not even seen the child since he was born. I have just learned that she has changed the childs last name without my knowledge and/or approval. I am still paying child support but have been thinking about signing over my parental rights. Being she has changed the last name of the child without my approval, are there any legal stipulations that may be to my benefit?

If the case is an OK case, then you need to talk to an OK attorney.

If this is a Texas case and you are paying child support, it seems unlikely she was able to change the child's name without your consent. Few Texas judges will let you "sign over" your rights unless there is someone to step up and take over your responsibilities by adopting the child. You should talk to a good family law attorney in the county where this will be going to Court.
