I'm a single mom, and my daughter and I are planning to vacation outside of the U.S. and I want to know what we need to do about it.

Many cruise lines and airlines won't allow the kid on their vehicle unless all the paperwork is done in advance. This is not a court issue -- it is a company policy issue.

Therefore, you need to talk to the ship or airline that you are using to see if there will be a problem.

I had to sign a very long document when my daughter was one week shy of her 18th birthday in order to go on a cruise with her Dad. It was the policy of the cruise line.
