Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Children left home

My husband recently found out his 16 yr old left home 2 yrs ago and is planning to get married this summer. She is living with boyfriend. and his 15 yr old has a job and is living with friends for appr. 6 months. mother has allowed all this to take place. He has continued to pay child support and is not behind. The mother uses this money for drugs the kids themselves have told us this. Can this be stopped. and if so what can we do. Do not have means for a lawyer.

Re: Children left home

The day the 16 year old marries, she is no longer a child and the child support for her ends. Even if she divorces later, she is no longer a child even if she is under 18 when she divorces.

The person the 15 year old has lived with for over 6 months can seek custody and Dad will be ordered to pay that person.

I strongly urge you to retain an attorney to help you.

There are many free legal services for people without funds, if you qualify.

The State of Texas website "State Bar of Texas" can phone numbers of free agencies that help people for free.

Lone Star Legal Services is one such agency in Texas.

You can visit my website at www.familylaw4u.com and look under "links" for many websites that have free legal services for indigent people.

(My "links page" is currently buried on my website - look for it -- it really is there!)
