Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

childrens health care

I have 2 former step children living with me because their mother abandoned them 1 1/2 yrs ago. Medicaid will no longer provide them with health insurance even though they are not my children because their half sister is my daughter. What can I do to get them health insurance when my job will not cover them, and I cannot afford private insurance?

Re: childrens health care

They might be eligible for the CHIPs program, but you really need to go to Court and seek conservatorship of them. Not only would that give you the right/duty to insure them, it would give you the legal right have custody of them and to make decisions for them as well.

Pat Bushman is right. You must have custody of the children in order to apply for CHIPS.

If Mom and Dad will agree to sign all the paperwork and not contest you having legal custody, I offer a DO IT YOURSELF CUSTODY kit.

My kit costs approx. what the on-line kits cost but mine work and were designed specifically for Texas residents.
