Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Childs insurance

My 4th ex wife is pressing me to provide insurance for my daughter and i can't afford it and she says she is going to take me to court to make me. It is in the papers, and i can't afford it. Will they put me in jail for not being able to afford insurance? I don't even have insurance, i can't afford it. I can't afford an attorney either. I pay 325.00 dollars in child support for my daughter and 325.00 child support for my son. What are my options?

Re: Childs insurance

You have two options. Contact the CHIPS program, and see if you qualify for insurance coverage for the children. If not you should file with the court for a modification, explaining your situation. Be prepared to explain that you do not have a car, or living room furniture that can be sold to meet this obligation. Judges tend to relent only when you can establish that are truly incapable of providing support -- I have seen parents ordered to pick up cans on the roadway and live in a halfway house until they become current.
