Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

I have a common law husband (together for 3 years) who is moving out. Is he allowed to have half of my property? Can he take the family dog?

This person who is leaving did not have a job for most of the 3 years and I supported him, including the purchase and care (food and vet) of the family dog.

First, is he really a common-law husband?

Did you two agree to live together as husband and wife and to accumulate community property together? Did you tell all your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, etc. that you were married? If you answer NO to either of these questions, you do not have a common law marriage.

If you are not married, he is entitled to NOTHING.

If you are married, he is entitled to a just and right division of the community property. If you think you are married, then lock your stuff up and hide the dog then file for divorce.
