Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

common law marriage and death of a spouse

A friend of mine has met all of the requirements in the state of Texas to be deemed ''common law married'' according to what I have read. They filed taxes jointly, claimed each other in public as husband and wife, and had an intention of marriage. She recently lost her spouse suddenly and tragically and needs to know if she may be intitled to death benefits through social security, he had no life insurance to my knowledge. Thank you in advance
