Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Common Law Marriage Validity

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My friend resided in CT with her boyfriend in a home they purchased together in 2003. They spent one night in a hotel in Texas on a business trip in 2005 & then returned to CT & continued to live together. Her live in boyfriend passed away in 2006. She is now claiming they were married by common law marriage in Texas but didn't register it anywhere. She is trying to inherit his entire estate & employee benefits such as pension & 401k. Would they be considererd legally married in TX?

Re: Common Law Marriage Validity

Could be - if they held themselves out to be man & wife at the hotel. She better have a good CT lawyer with knowledge of TX law or associate with a Texas Lawyer. Won't be easy but might be worth it.
