Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

Common Law Marriage and Wedding Ring Ownership

I am common law married to a mansince 1-16-02.We have a written and signed life-time contract. He gave me wedding rings already sized and soldered together. I do not take them off. Now that we are not together he is threatening to sue me for their return. They are worth about $500 but mean much more to me. Can he do this and win?????He is a VietNam vet and somewhat unstable with prior assault charges against him.
