Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
common law-informal marriage
I have been in a relationship for 7 years with my boyfriend, we have presented ourselves in public as a married couple, been introduces as his wife and have bills in both our names using his last name, recently we purchased a home together, now that the relationship is not going to well, he is trying to kick me out, I want to know what rights I have as far as being in a common law marriage, do I have to file a divorce legally and what property are we allowed to divide?

Re: common law-informal marriage
If a common law marriage is proved then you need to file a divorce within 2 years of your separation.
If you are currently living in the house, only a Judge can order you to be removed from your current residence.
If you feel threatened, your safety is the most important thing -- your possessions can be replaced but your life can't be!
If you live in the Houston area, you can give me a call. 713-847-6000
Good luck!
