Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Community Property
I have already filed for divorce, I thought that Brian would agree. I walked away with nothing. Before we were married Brian paid for some of my debts out of his checking account with no contract of repayment from me.( I was putting my checks into his account, also, but the account was in his name.) We acuired about 10,000 in property. He is now sueing me for the debt repayment and says that there is no community property. The checking account was in his name when I left and had about 2,000 in it, I did not get any of that. Since I left he has deposited about 20,000 and has sold my car that he gave me. Do I have to repay this debt? There is much more to this but I can not find room to explain here.
Thank you.

Re: Community Property
Money might not be the reason he is fighting the divorce. There are several compentent lawyers in Weatherford. If you are both doing this divorce without lawyers, and it sounds like you are, involve a lawyer. It sounds like he has something to lose (half the 20,000 in the bank and whatever else remains).
