Complicated Divorce

My best friend was married to his wife in CA. He went to jail for abuse and she has a protective order on him. They have a child. He came to TX and decided that he wanted a divorce, but because she is holding his son over him, she has moved in with him in TX. She threatens to send him back to jail all the time and tries to say and do things to set him off and he just wants out. What should he do?

He needs to hire a lawyer, pack his bags, move out and file for divorce. He will have to contend with the CA abuse charges during the divorce proceedings, and it may impact conservatorship, possession and access. But then again, so will jail, if he loses his temper again. If he is sitting in a volatile situation, he needs to leave immediately.
