Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
Correspondence mandatory thru attorneys?
We've been in custody fights for so long, always initiated by my fiance's ex wife, and have spent close to $30k in attorneys fees already. Ex insists we send everything through attorneys. Today I sent a notice of summer possession to her attorney in which I asked that she send any correspondence directly to us. Her attorney responded (and copied our attorney) that communication can't come from us - has to go from our attorney to her and vice-versa. Meanwhile, both attorneys make lots more money for every docuement they touch.
Is there a law that says we can't communicate other than through attorneys? Even though we're requesting it, can her attorney still refuse to take out the middle men? We're educated people and know what stuff we need to review with an attorney and what we can handle ourselves. We're going broke and just trying to save some money.
I know you all are attorneys, but please give an unbiased answer. We're so very desperate. Thanks!

Re: Correspondence mandatory thru attorneys?
There are other ways to communicate, even for couples that spend most of their time fighting. This might be a case where a parenting coordinator would be helpful (and cheaper) or a website especially designed for parental/custody communication. Several of my clients have used one called My Family Wizard. There are bound to be others. Talk to your attorney about it.
