Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

A couple of years ago I gave up legal rights to my son and allowed my ex-husbands new wife to adopt my son. does this mean that I no longer owe child support? we all agreed that I would not have to pay and that I wouldnt owe any arrears either. the child support office recently told me that I still owe child support and that they do not have any paperwork saying that my son had been adopted by the new mother...what do I do now?

"Gave up" your legal rights? How did you do that? Did a judge somewhere sign an order saying that your rights had been terminated? If not, you're still on the hook for child support.

But you might want to take a look at 229 SW2d 783.

If there is a court order terminating your parental rights, you need to send a certified copy to the appropriate child support enforcement office.
