Legal Question in Family Law in Texas
I went to court and filed for divorce myself and the judge signed the decree and granted the divorce. I looked at the public record online and it says it was cancelled -dismissal for want of prosecution. But I have the signed decree from the judge. Why would it says cancelled DWOP?

Go back and check the dates. Was the decree granted prior to the dismissal date? (DWOP is a dismissal process instituted by the courts to keep cases from languishing on the docket without being prosecuted). If your decree pre-dates the DWOP, then you should not have a problem, but bring it to the clerk's attention. If your decree is dated after the DWOP, but within 30 days, ask to have the dismissal removed, and the decree reinstated. If the decree is dated more than 30 days after the DWOP,you may have to refile and start over.
It usual for you to have received a DWOP notice after the divorce was filed, with a hearing date sometime in the future. If you let this date slip by, then the case was dismissed.
