Legal Question in Family Law in Texas

court filing fees for do it yourself divorces

How much does the texas divorce court system charge to file a 'no fault no children' ''do it yourself'' divorce request?

Can the divorce paperwork be mailed in or does a judge have to review papers and decide in person?

What are the requirements to receive a discounted or totally waived fee for filing divorce papers with the court?

What is the official name of the court that handles divorces in Texas?

Prices vary county to county. And prices can be changed at any time. What you get quoted this month, might be wrong next month.

In Texas, one of the parties must appear before the Judge and testify under oath. Then if the waiting period has been completed, the Judge can sign the divorce.

Divorces are handled by each county.

The "court system" charges a filing fee in the district clerk's office. each county is different. Here it's $202. You can file an affidavit of indigency if you can't afford the filing fee. Check with the bar association in your local county, sometimes attorneys will help with this situation. Ask the District Clerk's office. In our county, some judges have a day or two each month to grant divorces to people who can't afford an attorney.
